This is just horrible. I hope they find who did this and do the same to them. They are truly sick people. These kind of people deserve everything bad that happpens to the and God will get his in the end.

This is about a innocent child. Your political bents blind you to someones suffering. Trying to make a moral equivalency to some perceived wrong is infantile. 'Bringing out the worst' is an excuse, the perpetrator(s) have a cruel streak fostered by their religious bigotries and the society that condones it. War by its vary nature is destructive and innocents are injured and worse die.
Yet to deliberately hurt to disfigure someone, especially a child is beyond justification even for war!

This poor child will have to live with this for the rest of his life! The milk of human kindness eludes the monsters that did this and those who would make rationalizations condoning. How can you excuse this perversity with 'its all for the oil' or what happened in the past? See it for what it is, a wanton act of cruelty!

Pinay - I'm not certain how what you've said has anything to do with Iraq? I'm even less certain what it has to do with a kid being torched? I wondered the same thing about Nemo's post I just didn't voice it.

I hate to say this and I'm know I'm late in the argument, but I agree with nemo. Obviously you are not aware of Agent Orange in the Vietnam War, and even less of the Philippines-American War between 1900 and 1903. In that earlier war, the US (in the form of President Ford, if I'm not mistaken) was spouting "Benevolent Assimilation" on one hand, while on the other hand it was torturing and killing Filipinos who learned that the US didn't really help them overthrow Spanish rule but actually bought their country (and hard-earned freedom) from Spain for a measly US$20,000,000.00. I suggest you watch Raymond Red's "Sakay" to get the gist of this war, if you can find it on the likes of Divisoria.com or another similar Filipino online store, or even better try to find the original "Sakay" directed by the esteemed Lamberto Avellana back in 1939. (The best thing though would be to find history books written by and for Filipinos. The best place to order them may be at National Book Store because I honestly don't believe that any American library would stock up on such books.)

Please do not be naive. There's a reason why the Philippine-American War is never mentioned in US history classes (I know this because, we Filipinos being an ironically stupid lot, my mother's sisters brought her children to the US when they were in their early teens, and they were shocked to find that there was no mention of the war at all in their classes when Filipino teachers - the only sensible Filipinos - kept drilling it into them as they did to me.) I had thought you were very intelligent while I was browsing through your blog, so I decided it would be best you knew about this.

They are? Care to offer a little proof of that assertion? Fact of the matter is that the Iraqi people own the oil and they are the ones who own the revenue from the oil. The only thing the US or UK does is manage the money. You realize that lots of rich people have others that manage their money for them, right? Because they them selves do not know how to do it, or like Iraq if they did the wrong "family" members would get their hands on it.

No doubt you are also aware that they are "occupying" their land at the invitation of the current Iraqi government. Or did that fact escape you as well?

Here's another one for you, Iraq can't take care of itself. It simply doesn't have the ability, and what's more, they don't have the desire to do so. The people don't. Sure they want the "infidels" gone, but they don't want to figure out how to function in a democratic modeled society. It scares them. They've never had anything but someone leading them around by the nose to one degree or another.

If anyone is killing and humiliating Iraqi's it is the savages that are setting off car bombs day after day which TARGET IRAQI CIVILIANS. I could understand it if they were targeting US/UK soldiers but they aren't they are setting off bombs killing hundreds of people at a time in the middle of market places, near hospitals, just about anywhere that they can do so.

Do you honestly believe for one second that the US has any need, any need whatsoever to invade Iraq to "stay rich and powerful"? Do you know how much money we are sinking into and will continue sinking into that place? Do you know how much of a return we will get on our investment in terms of both financial restitution, and appreciation? I'll give you a hint, it's somewhere south of zero.

As far as the election goes, mistake or not that's what we in the free world have the right to do. Elect as we see fit. Correct me if I'm wrong but before Saddam was toppled I don't remember hearing much about free Iraqi elections. Oh I'm sorry, actually I did. It was all of the protesters always whining about the US not getting involved and getting Saddam out of power. Not fulfilling our role as "the worlds sole remaining Superpower".

Wrong. Again. We enjoy "luxury" because we have fought, bled, and died for it. No other people have suffered or bled for our luxuries. On the other hand both the US and Britain have had countless of ours killed fighting that others might enjoy the "luxury" of freedoms and rights that we have as human beings. But I don't expect that you would understand that.

Wrong. The US and Britain (not to mention about 100 other countries) might be responsible for starting the war, but the only people who can end it are the extremists who refuse to allow peace to settle upon the land. You realize if the place was stable, no idiots running around setting little kids on fire, no bombing schools, if it was stable there wouldn't even be combat troops there. You realize that don't you?

The responsibility lies on the shoulders of the Iraqi people to end it. They must demand a government that stands firm against terrorism and extremism. They must demand a government that doesn't sway and bend, shift and turn from one pathetic tribal loyalty to another.

I agree with Lebaeu on 2 things:

1. "Horrific things like this were going on in Iraq and all over the world Long before the U.S. went to Iraq". True and in all times. But you have to be of really bad faith to pretend that the US occupation has not brought out the animal in the people of Iraq (and the US soldiers!).

2. "the Bigger Problem is the Lack of Respect". I know that this is not the entire sentence but I wish to point out something related. It's time for the west (US, UK, France, etc,...) to treat other nations like equals and not like some inferior produce of nature. Ask the Africans how they deal with China; like equals. Ask them how they deal with the West: always with the fear of sanctions, retaliation, etc,...

Nemo - Neither Bush nor the US government is responsible for something like this. The men who did this are responsible, no one else. We are each responsible for our own actions. No one else shares any part of the blame.

I don't agree with Nemo.....Horrific things like this were going on in Iraq and all over the world Long before the U.S. went to Iraq.I Do agree that Less TV is Helpful but the Bigger Problem is the Lack of Respect for life on the Part of Animals that would Do such a thing to a child!..Any Child!Who ever did this Should be summarily shot in the head to protect the rest of humanity! It looks like some people think that it is Iraqi "culture" that permits such a thing. Nothing to do with Iraqis (or Islam; let's be frank and admit what's in the back of our mind! Especially if you have been programmed by the US propaganda machine.).

On the other hand, I definitely think George Bush and the US govt are responsible for this! The insecurity in Iraq is of their doing.

The culture doesn't think it is okay. A tiny minority do, but not the Iraqi's in general. But yes, you are correct it is sick.

I'm all for cultural diversity but I can't accept a culture that thinks this is okay. It's @#%&*! sick.
