4 surefire ways to lose your loyal readers

Perhaps you’re just tired of your readers in general, or maybe you have too many, or it could be that you simply want better readers, or… whatever your reasons I’ve come up with some “tried and true” methods that will have your once loyal readers fleeing from your blog in droves. Some of these methods I’ve tried myself while others I’ve observed.
- Method 1: Post about Christianity
- This is probably the number one method to ensure that you drive scores of traffic away from your blog. Case in point I’ve posted a total of 8 articles under my Christian Life category and each time it has resulted in 40 to 60% less traffic than normal and a significant drop in my RSS numbers.
This isn’t to say that only Christianity will have this effect, but I’ve not tried any of the other faiths to see what might happen. I suspect that they would not cause quite a bad drop in readers because it is more politically correct to not like Christianity than other faiths in general.
- Method 2: Change your posting schedule
- If you have a regular posting schedule change it up. Post more often or less often than normal. Each time I do this I see a drop in traffic to the blog. Not sure why, but that doesn’t matter. I’m just here to pass along the information that I’ve observed.
- Method 3: Post outside of your niche
- As much as I like to call myself a nicheless blogger I’m resigned to the fact I have a niche. What that niche is I’m not sure, but I do know that when I post about topics not dealing with either computers or blogging my traffic drops signficantly. On another blog I have dealing with video games I find the same thing happens if I post about things other than video games.
- Method 4:Post to often
- I generally post a couple of times a day, but on those days when I’ve gone nuts and posted over 5 times a day my loyal readers run for the hills. Why? Ask them I only know it always takes two or three days to recover from such an episode. I suppose I should start taking advantage of wordpress’s ability to schedule posts a few days out.
There you have it. Four tried and true methods to cull your reader base. In order to be most effective make sure you mix these things up as familiarity breeds complacency which of course will make your job of getting rid of them so much harder than it needs to be.

Agree, with a tiny reserve about method one`s explanation.
I have no idea what is your level of being a beliver - religious point of view.
But I can tell you is not allways-only about politically (in)correct to be or not to be a christian beliver, nor a “trend”.
It may be so, specifically about your readers - is something you should know.
But also may be because of THIS .. (not the video, the message resulting ..)

Valentin - I didn’t know that there are levels of belief. I just kind of figured either you believed or didn’t… As for the video, I laugh just as much this time around watching it as I did the first time. Maybe even more. If I can find it again I saw a very good video made to refute it.
Patricia - Thanks! Not sure if the aim was humor or sarcasm, but either way works.
