I need RSS subscribers!

Sign up for RSS feed!Dear friends,

I appreciate your support over these past few months as I have been getting A Blog about Nothing up and running. Truly I do, but I feel that it is time to take this whole project to next level. I get around 800 visitors a day and my RSS count hovers at around 60. I’ve done what I know to do to attract readers. At this point I would like to ask two favors of you. First if you haven’t already done so please sign up for my RSS feed. This site is updated on a daily basis and it is a great way to keep up with how things are going. The second favor is that you recommend this blog to two friends who you believe might enjoy it.

Again I thank you for being loyal and sticking around to see what new things I have to say on a day by day basis.

And because I don’t expect you to signup to my feed without benefit I’ve included a few ‘tips and tricks’ I’ve discovered that will help out in the hunt for new subscribers.

Icon color, design, and placement
People are creatures of habit, and once we learn the pattern it is rare for us to pay attention to things. This is especially true of something like RSS icons. You can overcome this handicap on your blog by trying a few things.

  • Use the traditional icon but change its color
  • Use a completely new icon and make sure it’s function is clearly noted
  • Move the icon around to another part of the page being certain to keep it above the fold
  • Resize the icon. Bigger is good, huge isn’t always good
  • Forgo the icon and go with a descriptive text link. Think of it as selling a slot to a customer

A call to action
Here’s a fact for you to consider. By virtue of this very post my RSS feed count will go up. That is a fact. I don’t know how much it will go up, but simply by mentioning it people will subscribe. If I had just written in generic terms it would have gone up, but because I’ve wrapped it into a call to action I expect the results to be significantly greater. In about a week I’ll post what those results were. (Someone please remind me)

All is fair in love and war, right?
I hesitate to mention this tip, but I’ll go ahead with it. I’ve had this one done to me a few times, but haven’t yet tried it. I do believe it is a great way to get more email feed subscribers. Sign people up for your feed using their email details. They’ll get the email confirmation letter and there’s a decent chance they’ll confirm it. If they do you have another subscriber to convert if not no big loss. Just don’t be obnoxious with it.

There are lots of ways to get more RSS subscribers, but in the end it all comes down to bringing it to their attention and asking for what you want.

The number is fake some people like the one who come on my blog just type the address directly or bookmarked my website so they have no reason to subscribe… I do think they are just like me .. this is nice for the one who want to do direct sale.
I never subscribe to any blogs , I’m still do it the old school way… I bookmarked website or I know the website address by heart….the only reason I sign up for feedburner ;someone asked me for more option like getting my feed in his e-mail…
I’m suspicious about the last point subscribe for other people.. That’s a little taste of unethical ways … just for a number…

Blackysky’s last blog post..Kim Kardashian in playboy magazine cover: Sex brings her fame?

  2. Blackysky – 99% of the sites I read are via bookmarks. There are a select few that are in my reader. As far as signing up people… I’d agree it is unethical, but I bet it is effective.

Okay, okay, Brook, you’ve hooked me. I discovered your site this morning via the RSS Feed footer on a post over at TheBlogExperiment forums. And I like what I see, so your blog is now gracing my Google Reader list.

So since you’ve opened the door, I’ll ask likewise. Come visit my blog and – if it bears any interest to ya, add me to your list. Or at least just leave a comment or two.

  4. Rob – Great to have you on board with us! Us of course being myself and my wonderful readers :)

I will be swinging by your blog shortly, thanks for inviting me!
