Putting things into perspective

Putting things into perspective
I currently reside about 20 miles north of Boston, Mass which of course is “Patriot country”. No doubt you’ve heard some of the news involving the Patriots alleged cheating by video taping an opposing teams offensive signals. Being a transplant to the area I don’t honestly care one way or another, but it seems that many many people do both in this area and outside of it. This isn’t about the Patriots however, or what they may or may not have done. This is about putting something like this into a proper perspective.
Let’s take a look at something just a bit more important shall we? How about Kevin Everett who sustained a LIFE THREATENING spinal cord injury? Is there even a comparison? A mans life versus some adults cheating like little kids, is that even a fair comparison?
Kevin Everett’s recovery has been nearly miraculous, and though I doubt he’ll ever play football again there’s a good chance he’ll be able to at least walk.
Again this is about putting two separate tragedies into perspective. One is a human being, one is a game. Which one deserves more attention and respect?

DEFINITELY! I remember the first time I saw a player get hurt like that. It was some guy on the Lions years ago and it broke my heart. I am a Patriots fan to the core but when it comes to all the players, no matter what team, I would never ever wish anything like this on any of them. When I first heard of Kevin Everett, it left a pit in my stomach.

You are right in noticing the sillyness of the media. Think about the news coverage Mike Vick recieved vs. the news coverage Chris Benoit received. When we place the horrors of dog-fighting ahead of the horrors of rage-induced murder, we running the risk of losing all perspective.

Angela - Thank you. Sometimes I wonder if sports fans (fanatics?) have any concept of life outside of “their” teams.
David - Uh, thanks for stopping by and commenting, but I have no idea what you’re talking about. Sorry
Jeremy - I don’t know if I agree or not. Step beyond the fact that I’m a Pit Bull advocate we can also look at it from the perspective of someone who does what this freak did to those dogs will sometimes move on to humans.
As far as Chris Benoit there has been no proof whatsoever that he went into a “rage”. In fact it is possible that brain damage might have triggered the attacks.
I do agree that things need to be put into their proper perspective, but I don’t agree that covering Michael Vick was any less responsible than covering Chris Benoit.
