Finally! I can take pictures of my food too!

Today I went to Wal-Mart and picked up a nice little digital camera for about $175.00 (plus tax, plus accessories, plus gas, plus… ugh!). Anyhow I’ve been wanting one for a while but could only find the crappy ones with 3x optical and 5x digital zoom so hadn’t bothered throwing my money away. Today however I came across the Kodak ZD710 which sport 10x optical zoom. For those who don’t know the difference optical zoom magnifies the picture using the cameras telephoto lens. Digital zoom mimics zooming, poorly mimics I might add, by magnifying the pixels. That’s what causes the blurry, pixelated look from the cheap digital cameras.

Other similar cameras to this were selling for around $250 and up. I had money in my pocket and wanted it so I got it. Of course the fact that Wal-Mart has a “robust” 30 day return policy made parting with my money that much easier. I kid you not I know a girl who returned a box of diapers to Wal-Mart, no questions asked. She had used all but one pair and they gave her money back. So I don’t know what I’m advocating here, but you might consider buying things at Wal-Mart every now and again. If there are any in your area…

So I have this wicked cool camera to take butt loads of pictures with. Problem is that it was dark by the time I got it so I needed a few worthwhile subjects. First I got a few pictures of Damascus (my Ball Python) a few of my mother’s dog and then it dawned on me! I too, just like John Chow, can take pictures of my food! How sweet is that people?! So without further ado… My food!

This one features a bowl of bean and ham soup and the extra bonus of a spoon! Thank you

How ya like me now, John Chow?

And my camera does this too…

Is that the really hip and with it thing to do? Just asking, because a couple of weeks I was inspired to take a photo of some sushi> that I was about to enjoy, and a doggone good thing I did too because I only got about a third of it down when my husband dumped the whole shooting match in the floor…

Wait! This is not my blog. :o

No, really, congratulations on your new camera. You were smart to know what you wanted and to jump on it when the price was right. You will always be happy about the nicer features such as optical zoom. It just makes photography all that much more fun when you can control the output and the photos turn out well. Have fun.

  2. Karen – Thank you. So far I’m loving it. I don’t know if it’s the hip thing to do, but I figured he has (as well as others, but he’s the most well known). I figured what the hell I’d try it too and see if I can steal a little bit of his magic… Yeah right…

Ha! The only way to beat John Chow is to have live critters in the pictures trying to gnaw at you. :-)

  4. RT – That I can do too ;) Just give me a moment or 3…

Congratulations on going even beyond catblogging to the pinnacle of dullblogging… Your lunch.

It must be a very proud moment. And don’t just pick on John Chow, what about Steve Pavlina?

  6. Fiar – It is indeed a proud moment. I’ve got today off so I’m thinking of swinging by the McDonald’s and showing off some more eats.

Never heard of Steve Pavlina until now. And after a quick glance at his “about” page… nevermind.

Congrats. I, too, am preparing to purchase a new DLSR. I have my sights set on a Canon Rebel, though. I can’t wait.

  8. JoeTech – Hope you like it. Loving mine so far. Stood up at the beach in 20 mph winds freezing trying to get a few good pictures. Should have read the instructions in the car before I tried to use it for the low light conditions. Got a lot of blurs, lol

I think taking photos of food is ‘hip’ – I’ve been taking my Canon D20 into cafe’s and photographing any excellant meal I have – then I can blog about it and promote the place that I ate at… Enjoy the camera – look forward to more photos of any kind.

Talking about returning stuff, I heard of someone who took a pair of tights back to M&S because they made her legs look hairy.

  14. Treehousedweller – Yeah I’m gonna get some Burger King this afternoon and take some pictures. Or maybe a sub. Either way…

April – Haha! I wonder if they’d take them back had her excuse been “They make my butt look big”
