What I’ve learned in the past 3 days of blogging

I’m well aware that 3 days isn’t a lot of time to learn a lesson, but I’ve learned this in the past 3 days. If you don’t pay attention to what is happening you’ll get buried!

Mysteriously increasing click thru rates

Yesterday I wrote a post about my goals over the next week. I noticed my CTR both on Ad Sense and other ads began to increase almost immediately. To be honest they have more or less exploded in comparison to what they have been. Per the TOS I can’t post exact numbers but it went up significantly. I attribute this to the fact I said I wanted to increase my earnings by at least 35%. There is no doubt that my readers are the best in the world!

Linkbait lesson learned
Link BaitIf you throw something out that has strong linkbait potential treat it as such. Case in point: A couple of days ago I posted this Jibjab square dance video and sent emails to both Darren Rowse and Jeremy Schoemaker as well as a few others. I wasn’t even thinking linkbait when I did it and as such I didn’t bother staying on top of it and making sure Shoemoney knew it came from me. He put the video up on his site but had no place to link back to and eventually ended up taking it down because it was causing errors for his readers. I tried to get him to link back to the original post on this blog, but so far no response. And I don’t blame him. I should have been prepared.

Banned from Digg and now a “Sphinner”

It appears this domain has been banned from Digg due to spam abuse. I’ve not had any luck contacting Digg about this to get some clarification, and to be honest I don’t expect they’ll respond to me. Oh well there are always ways around things like that. One of which was to sign up for Sphinn and start using that to promote posts on this blog.

Too much of a good thing
SUI’m one of those people who sees something good and then beats it to death. Case in point is Stumble Upon. I’m quickly seeing that having more than 2 or 3 articles a week submitted to stumble upon is a detriment to your blog. For instance I got over 3500 visitors for my article Before you call the computer tech… so I figured the next day I’d follow up with Revealed: Top-secret method to avoiding internet related computer problems! which got about 300 visitors (and only 8 stumbles). I’m convinced had I waited 2 or 3 days before asking for Stumbles it would have gone over much better.

I got banned from Digg about three months ago. They’ll never get back to you so don’t even waste your time.

Jazzy - Thanks for the encouragement, lol. But seriously I don’t expect they give a damn one way or another. If they did they would have at least sent a canned answer to one of my emails requesting help/resolution.
