Jason Voorhees returns to “Camp Blood”

I’m a fan of horror movies. Always have been. Even when I was a little kid and they scared the snot out of me I had to watch them. And the son of Pamela and Elias Voorhees was the one who started it all for me. In a previous post I spoke briefly about my 3 favorite horror movie monsters, and wouldn’t you know it; our friendly neighborhood psychopath, Jason Voorhees tops the list.

And he’s back. For the umpteenth time ready to hack ‘n slash his way through a body count to make “The Governator” blush. The film scheduled for a Friday Feburary 13th 2009 release is directed by German born Marcus Nispel who also directed the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Not to mention several other not-so-notable films.

In addition to Nispel Michael Bay is the producer and the legendary Sean Cunningham serving as one of the excutive producers of the film. The other executive producer is Toby Emmerich.

If you are familiar with the story line Jason’s mother Pamela Voorhees is the killer in the original 1980 Friday the 13th. This time Nana Visitor who played Major Kira Nerys in the Star Trek Deep Space Nine series will play the part of Pamela.

Donning the infamous hockey mask this time is around is stuntman Derek Mears. The younger Jason is played by Caleb Guss

After the official release of this movie the Friday the 13th franchise will total 12 movies in all. But this new one isn’t a continuation of the series. It is a “reimaging” of the first 3 movies with small elements of part 4 in it. Personally that distrubes me a little bit. I mean leave well enough alone. Make something new don’t try to improve on legend. But I digress, obviously I have intention of watching this movie otherwise I wouldn’t be sitting here at 1am on a Saturday morning writing about it.

The newest trailer looks promising, but then sometimes I wonder if they don’t put more effort into the trailers than the actual films. I can’t recall how many times the trailers looked great but the movies themselves have sucked. Guess there’s only one way to find out…
