Is Larry Craig fit for duty?
Is Larry Craig fit for duty?
By now most everyone has heard of US Senator Larry Craig. If not he was a virtual unknown until he was arrested for soliciting sexual favors in a mens bathroom at the Minneapolis airport. For several months the Idaho Stateman has been conducting an ongoing investigation into Senator Craig’s sexual orientation, and possible covert liasons with other men. Aside from the obvious implications to his sexual orientation this brings up some other more pertinent concerns.
- Craig files to withdraw guilty plea
- We all make mistakes at one point or another in our lives, and it is certainly not unheard of to admit something to police that you didn’t do. The police can put a lot of pressure on you psychologically and sometimes it is just to much. BUT it’s a mistake that is normally corrected within a few seconds, but Larry Craig was arrested in June. This is 3 months later, not 3 minutes, not 3 day, or even 3 weeks, but 3 months.
Craig’s lawyer, William Martin, blames The Idaho Statesman for conducting a witch hunt which caused Craig to bow to pressure and admit to guilt when he was not guilty. Court papers filed today are seeking to withdraw the guilty plea.
- Pressure from a newspaper investigation was to much?
- Maybe I’m out of line here, but for some reason I have trouble getting this through my thick skull. Larry Craig, a United States Senator pleads guilty to sexual misconduct because of the stress and pressure of a newspaper investigation? Does anyone else see a problem with this? Imagine if it was an especially sinister organization like Al-Qaeda that was pressuring him. What would he say, or do in a situation like that? I wonder how quickly he’d roll over if a class of unruly kindergarten kids were pressuring the good Sentator.
Like I said perhaps I’m out of line. I’ve never been subject to an investigation into my sexual orientation, but I find it hard to fathom how you can be so stupid to literally hand them the fuel to finish burning your reputation to the ground. He could have recorded himself on video have sex with men and handed out to everyone who asked, and it would not have done more damage to his politics than what he is doing now.
- Hang him out to dry
- As far as Craig’s service in the Senate goes I submit to all that he is not worthy of the office. Not because of what might have happened in a men’s bathroom. Not because of what his sexual orientation might be. Instead he is not worthy because he lies, and bows to media pressure. I say lies because 3 months ago he pleaded guilty and today he is looking to reverse that plea. If that’s not lying I don’t know what is. Is this really the type of person you want introducing, debating, and making laws that affect us everyday of our lives? I certainly don’t.
What is your feeling about all of this? Does it bother you that Craig was so easily persuaded to plead guilty because of a little media pressure? Does it even matter or is this just something Idahoans should ignore and let Craig get on with “the business of the country”?
