If YOU don’t get up off your LAZY butt and HELP YOURSELF…

If YOU don’t get up off your LAZY butt and HELP YOURSELF…

no one else will either!

Yes, I’m talking to you! How many times have you said something along the lines of:

  • “Maybe I’ll try that next time
  • “Well I think tomorrow would be a better to do that.”
  • “I’ll try it when I get a little bigger and more people have heard of me.”
  • “What if it doesn’t work out, what if I fail?”

If you’re like any other normal oxygen sucking human being you’ve probably hobbled around on those and hundreds of other excuses day and night for most all of your years of life. Except in “real life” eventually we do get up and we do embrace our challenges. Sure we often fail, but we’re out there trying. But online we’re much more cautious. We have these excuses, this spirit of defeat and trepidation before we even get started.

Next time
Is this supposed to be a joke? Seriously when has next time ever come without become another next time? The moment you say next time you’ve already claimed a failure. If something isn’t worthy of “right now” it’s not worthy at all.

Tomorrow
This is almost as bad as next time but at least you’re putting a time line on it when you say tomorrow. Let’s be realistic now. For most of us tomorrow never comes in a figurative sense. We get to tomorrow and move on to something else. Something fresh, new and exciting.

When I get a little bigger
Unbelievable that people use this excuse. It’s the most hollow of all of them you can think of. How do you think others like Problogger got bigger? They got bigger by doing something while they were smaller. By working and crafting an audience from day one. They didn’t pop out of the cyberspace womb big and ready to eat meat.

What if I fail?
You’ll be normal just like the rest of us. But the question you should be asking yourself isn’t “What if I fail?”, but instead ask yourself “What will I do to surpass this once it succeeds?” Of course if you’re still sitting there not getting anything done because you’re too lazy there’s no need to worry about surpassing anything.

Take a chance on yourself and on your dreams. If you dream of having 50 comments a post go out and get them. If you dream of 50,000 visitors a day go out and get them. Take chances, break some rules. Hell, break all the rules. Step on some toes. Offend some folks. If you’re not willing to do things as simple as those you’ll get swallowed up by everyone else.

  • Mike - Thanks! Hope to see you back soon!

Nathan - I took it for granted that it would be understood I was directing my advise to those who are indecisive or procrastinate when they are well able and prepared to move forward. Sorry.

I disagree with not waiting until you grow some. Sometimes people rush into doing whatever it is they are doing way before it is time which will do more damage than an extra measure of caution would.

I just surfed in from a blog rush widget. Nice blog and good points you've brought up about being lazy.
