Behind every powerful man…
There’s an old saying that goes something like this. Behind every powerful man is a more powerful woman, or something along those lines. The exact phrase isn’t important, but the message is conveys to the listener is.
It seems that our good friend Barack Obama has found out just how true that saying really can be. It seems that Michele, his doting wife and consummate supporter through thick and thin informed the presidential hopeful that he wouldn’t be allowed to run again and it is now or never in his bid for the White House.
Am I the only one disturbed by this? His wife is telling him what he can and can’t do? If we elected this guy president would his wife be running the show in the wings? Would we have a repeat of the Bill Clinton era in which we witnessed the rise of Hillary Clinton? Would we willingly suffer another tragedy like that one?

Although I don’t agree with your assessment of the Bill Clinton era, I do agree with the sentiment of your post. Any president, man or woman, that we elect should be a strong leader and have 100% backing of their spouse(if any) for the duration. We need someone who is in it for the long-haul. Not someone who says,”gee, didn’t make it this time…guess I will give up!”

Patricia – You don’t think that Hillary rose to prominence riding on her husband’s political coattails? I don’t think we’d have even ever heard of her if not for Bill.
I guess I will stop calling for Obama to wait until 2012, then. It’s an unusual condition for a candidate’s spouse to set, but I don’t see that this means Michelle is wearing the family pants. Certainly she isn’t running for co-President as Hillary was.
Rotus – I didn’t mean it in the sense that she calls the shots, but judging from what has been reported in the media about this it seems she does. Of course is Mr. Obama thinks it necessary to clarify he’s more than welcome to give me a call and I’d happily print exactly what was said.
You really do not know much about Michelle Obama. Nor did you consider what the stump really means to individuals who are making it.
Michelle Obama was a working attorney and legal consultant. She gave up her privacy and career to support Barack in his bid for office.
Given the fact that they have young daughters and the actual amount of time that is required to run for office, it is not that difficult to understand why she may not want to repeat the process.
It is also not difficult to understand why she might not want to go through the process again when you consider how much it takes out of people. Our press spends a lot of time tearing apart candidates period. They pry around in people’s lives and give information that is really not all that important in many cases about the individual.
It would be very difficult to have your life disrupted with Secret Service, the press corps, and all that goes with such an endeavour.
Michelle was a working attorney when she met Barack. She is a down to earth person and more than willing to say what is on her mind.
mswhyte – You brink up some good points. Points which reinforce my newly formulated belief that Barack Obama would be one of the absolute worst choices for President. If Mrs. Obama has a hard time dealing with the microscope when her husband is a candidate imagine how it would be for her if he became President.
As far as her giving up what she had built before I don’t see what that has to do with anything?
